1 cm Graph Paper
Centimetre squares, exactly 10 mm wide when printed at 100 %, for maths, area and metric scale drawings.
How to make 1 cm graph paper
- Choose a paper size: US Letter, A4, US Legal, Tabloid, A3 or A5, in portrait or landscape.
- Set the square size. Use the 1 cm preset, or type a custom size in millimetres or inches.
- Choose a heavier line every 2, 4, 5, 8 or 10 squares if you want the sheet divided into groups; every 5 marks each 5 cm.
- Turn on numbers along the top and left edges, for every line, every 5 or every 10. Add a heavier outer border if you need one.
- Pick a line colour (light blue, grey, black, green, red, purple, or a custom colour) and a line weight (fine, normal or bold).
- Open Page and print settings to set the margin, an optional title, an optional Name and Date line, the number of pages (1 to 50), and whether the small site address in the bottom margin stays on.
- Check the line under the preview for the square count, such as 19 × 27 squares on A4.
- Click Print, Download PDF, SVG, or Copy link.
To get true-size squares, print at 100 % or “Actual size” and turn off “Fit to page” or “Shrink to fit” in your print dialog. Copy link stores all current settings, so you can recreate or share the same sheet later. The page also remembers the paper size you chose last time in your browser.
What is 1 cm graph paper?
1 cm graph paper is paper printed with a grid of squares, each exactly 1 centimetre (10 mm) on each side. Each square is about 0.394 inch, a little bigger than 3/8 inch.
Large squares like these are easy to count and measure. People use 1 cm grid paper to measure area by counting square centimetres and to practise perimeter and area. It is also useful for bar charts, scale drawings at 1 cm = 1 m (a scale of 1:100), and early maths lessons, where young students find big squares easier to work with.
How many 1 cm squares fit on A4?
With the default 10 mm margins, A4 paper (210 × 297 mm) fits 19 × 27 squares of 1 cm. The width gives 210 − 20 = 190 mm, which holds 19 squares. The height gives 297 − 20 = 277 mm, which holds 27 squares.
The grid is always made of whole squares, centred inside the margins. A wider margin leaves fewer squares, so the count changes when you change the margin. The number under the preview updates to match your settings.
Will the squares really be 1 cm?
Yes, if you print at 100 % or “Actual size” with fit-to-page turned off. Each square is drawn at exactly the size you chose, so a ruler laid on the printed sheet should show each square as 1 cm.
Fitting to the page shrinks every square slightly, so the 1 cm measurement will be off. If you need accurate measurements, check one or two squares with a ruler before you use the sheet for a scale drawing.
Can I get 1 cm graph paper on US Letter?
Yes. US Letter paper (8.5 × 11 in) with the default 10 mm margins gives 19 × 25 squares of 1 cm. You can choose US Letter in portrait or landscape.
If you change the margin, the number of squares changes too. Check the count under the preview before printing if you need a specific number of squares.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between 1 cm and millimetre graph paper?
1 cm graph paper has squares 10 mm wide, so the grid is coarser. Millimetre graph paper has 1 mm squares, which suit fine drawing and precise measurement. The “1 cm with millimetres” preset on this page gives you both: 1 mm squares, a medium line every 5 mm, and a heavy line every 1 cm.
Can I print 1 cm graph paper at home?
Yes. Download the PDF or use Print, then set the print dialog to 100 % or “Actual size” with fit-to-page off. This keeps each square at exactly 1 cm.
Can I make 1 cm graph paper in landscape?
Yes. Choose landscape for any paper size, including A4 and US Letter. The square count in the preview updates for the new orientation.
Can I add numbers and a name line to my cm graph paper?
Yes. Turn on numbers along the top and left edges, and use the optional title and Name and Date line in Page and print settings. These options are optional, so you can leave them off.
Is this 1 cm graph paper generator free?
Yes. It is free, runs in your browser, and needs no sign-up or download.
Can I print 1 cm graph paper on A3?
Yes. Choose A3 and the squares stay 1 cm; more of them fit on the bigger sheet.
